Another update from within the confines of the Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) Detention Center in Camp Bagong Diwa Bicutan Metro Manila.
The young Korean who attempted suicide, has returned from hospital and is currently in the clinic, seperated from general population.
The female detention area enters the 7th week of lockdown.
The recently transferred Chinese remain in the isolation cells. They were transferred from Muntinlupa and we hear non other that President Duterte has order that they are in to be isolated as they are convicted felons, sentenced to 25 years but now released after serving just 10 years under Republic Act 10592 also known as the Good Conduct and Time Allowance Law (GCTA), see link below for details.
An Indian national was last night, arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). BI personnel assigned at airport allege the individual has a fake Canadian visa in his passport. The individual alleges his visa was obtained thru a very reputable travel agency in India and is impossible that it is fake. We will keep you updated on developments.
A New Zealand national detained over 1 week now, no criminal or civil cases, his passport is valid and visa is in status for another 2 months. Arrested by BI, brought to the detention center and last Wednesday taken to the BI legal division in Intramuros. Sources state the BI personnel told him, “Ok, you can go but we cant release you tonight because it’s after 5pm, we will release you in the morning”. The individual was returned to the Bicutan detention center and the following morning the adminstration staff told him they have not yet received his release papers. Later the same day they were encouraging him to self-deport. He needless to say remains detained but we hear has now hired legal counsel, and is determined to file cases in a court of law.
